Map of Route 3000

The Prince William Parkway runs between Route 234 Dumfries Road in Manassas to York and Summerland Drives in Woodbridge.  The Parkway is a 4 to 6 lane divided major arterial highway which links Manassas and the Potomac Mills-Dale City-Woodbridge areas of Prince William County.  These are the two most populous areas of the county.  Upon completion of the Route 234 Bypass in Manassas, the Prince William Parkway will provide part of a continuous 4 to 6 lane arterial route from I-66 to I-95 in Prince William County (via Route 234 and the Parkway itself).  Currently, the eastern end of the Prince William Parkway is at York and Summerland Drives.  The Prince William County Comprehensive Plan shows an extension of the Parkway that would end at US 1 in the area of Marumsco Plaza.

The Prince William Parkway was built it the mid-1990's.  It is an interesting road in that it was built partly by VDOT and partly by Prince William County.  The sections of the Prince William Parkway from I-95 west through Potomac Mills were built by VDOT around the time of the construction of the HOV Lanes on I-95.  The Prince William Parkway intersects I-95 where the old Horner Road interchange was located.  The Parkway runs on the old route of Horner Road from I-95 west to the Gateway Crossing Shopping center where Horner road exits the Parkway.  The Prince William Parkway also sports a large Park and Ride Lot at I-95 which is constantly full.  To help with the parking situation at this Park and Ride Lot, VDOT just expanded this lot with 307 more spaces bringing the total at this lot to 1,050 spaces.  There is also direct access to the I-95 HOV Lanes from inside the Park and Ride Lot.  The Prince William Parkway west of Old Bridge road is a different story.  Prince William County had long known there was a need to build a high capacity road to link the two ends of the county.  Traffic was growing on two lane cross-county routes such as Yates Ford Road, Davis Ford Road and Old Bridge Road.  However, VDOT was not prepared to build the road quite yet.  The county seeing its transportation needs not being met built the road itself and then turned it over to VDOT and the state for maintenance.  Prince William County is primarily responsible for the new construction on the Parkway from Manassas to Hoadly Road/Davis Ford Road.  The Parkway from that point to the left/right turn to continue on the Parkway uses a section of Old Bridge Road.  Old Bridge Road continues as a 4 to 6 lane divided road from the turning point on the Parkway.  The section of the Prince William Parkway between Manassas and Hoadly Road/Davis Ford Road is most like the Fairfax County Parkway in that it is a wide, well-built almost freeway type road.  The other sections of the Prince William Parkway are more like arterial roads in that they have limited intersections and driveway cuts, but have many businesses lining each side of the road.  This is especially true in the Potomac Mills area.

In the Summer of 2000, the Liberia Avenue extension opened from the intersection of the the Prince William Parkway and Richmond Avenue to VA 234 Dumfries Road in Manassas.  The planning maps that I have seen call this new stretch of road Liberia Avenue.  However, it is signed as the Prince William Parkway.  I am unsure as to the route number of this new section of the Parkway as VDOT has not installed any route number signs.  The new road is built much like the original section of the Prince William Parkway west of Davis Ford Road and Hoadly Road.  This section of the Parkway will tie into VA 234 where the VA 234 Bypass rejoins the original section of VA 234.  There is also construction west of VA 234 that will realign Brentsville Road to a 4-way intersection (future interchange) with the Prince William Parkway.

On the Exit-Intersection List below, read down to go east and read up to go west.
