Some notes about the map:
- The northern-most alignments of the Outer Beltway and Northern Virginia Expressway would have been finalized based upon the selection for the location for the Upper Potomac River Crossing.
- The Pimmit Run Expressway would have crossed the Potomac River and linked with the then-planned
US 240 expressway extension into Northwest DC.- No route numbers were ever discussed or planned for any of these expressways. Interstate 595 is labeled as such because the routing it was to take is identical to the plans for Interstate 595 and no specific name was given to that segment of expressway in the Northern Virginia Major Thoroughfare Plan.
