Route VA-288 Construction - February 2004

Here are 7 photos of Route VA-288 under construction. The first 6 were taken in early February, 2004, in a half-hour photo session. Click the thumbnail photo for a larger photo (they range in size from 134 to 169 kilobytes, with most being less than 153 kilobytes).

Route 288 construction, looking south from the Charter Colony Parkway overpass over VA-288. Visible in the distance, is the north end of the completed VA-288 section from VA-76 to north of Lucks Lane. The completed portion visible here is north of Lucks Lane and is not yet open to traffic. The large cut ahead was recently completed. Recent heavy rains have made the grade very wet. This is in Chesterfield County.

This photo was taken from the same vantage point as the previous photo, but it was taken with a 135mm (2.7x) telephoto lens, instead of the 50mm (1.0x) regular lens used previously. Recent heavy rains have made the grade very wet.

Looking north from where Charter Colony Parkway crosses VA-288. Heavy grading is under construction for the mainline of VA-288. Recent heavy rains have made the grade very wet, and this photo and the one below show just how soggy that the grade has gotten for much of the last year; it is much drier as of the April 2nd writing of this webpage, dry enough to complete the excavation.

The following photo was taken by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on February 26, 2004, and used with their permission.

Looking north on the Route 288 northbound roadway under construction, about 1/4 mile north of the Charter Colony Parkway overpass that the previous photo was taken from. The grade is considerably drier since over two weeks has passed since the previous photo was taken. Heavy graded stone aggregate has been placed in the area where unsuitable material was removed. The interchange and overpass for Woolridge Road is under construction in the distance.
